Ushering in the Age of Obama

I first would like to apologize for not blogging you during the inauguration. Unfortunately, I was part of the purple ticket saga. Now that Obama is the President, he has urged many Americans to give back to their communities by service. This is something that we must all do. The president cannot change this world alone. It is time to place this historic election in our hearts and focus on the task the president has given everyone. How do you plan on giving back? leave a comment on my blog.

The Obama Inauguration and MLK Day

Well it is finally here. I am heading to DC for the Obama Inauguration. It has been a long road for me. I remember when I started working for him in the Spring of 2007 no one knew who Obama was. There was a lot of stress, sweat, and tears. I am looking forward to watching history. I am going to try to bring you the play by play of each moment by blogging from my phone.

For those whom cannot make it, please remember to do some type of community service on MLK Day. Please support the SC Conference NAACP as they hold their annual "King Day at the Dome" March and rally on January 19 in Columbia, SC. There will be a prayer breakfast at Zion Baptist Church at 8AM. The church is located on 801 Washington Street in Columbia, SC. The march will be after the breakfast. The keynote speaker for the march will be President and CEO of the NAACP Benjamin Jealous. Please come out and support!

What is the Secret?

Every New Year, we always commit ourselves to making resolutions. We tell

ourselves that we are going to get closer to God. Some of us may say that we are going

to loose weight. Others are just looking for financial freedom or just happiness. The

other night I was watching a DVD called “The Secret” This DVD has changed my life in

a lot of ways. I am now training my mind and my heart with the techniques of the Secret.

The Secret explains that things move and exist in the laws of attraction.

We attract what we believe. If you believe that your life is a failure, then you will be failure.

If you believe that you are great and life is great, then you will attract greatness. The

laws of attraction are very powerful and can change your life. We should try our best to

focus all of our attention to positive things despite our current surroundings.

Positive Thinking is probably one of the hardest things for us to do in our lives.

Our society is filled with so much negativity, that if we see a person that is happy all the

time, we look at them as strange. Thinking positive is like physical exercise, we must

practice it until it becomes a habit. If you are at a point in your life were your finances

have hit rock bottom, try to focus on yourself coming out of that situation with more

money and better financial stability. If you take the time out each day just to say

something good to yourself, your life will change dramatically.

Regardless of what religion you are a part of, each one will teach you that

life is meant to be lived in abundance and not depression. Happiness is something that is

automatic, it is something one must pursue. Even in the Declaration of Independence, the

Founding Fathers realized and believed that all men should have life, liberty and the

pursuit of happiness. Basically they were telling us that life is given to us, liberty has been given

to us, but happiness is the main goal, the jack pot. We have to train ourselves each day to

pursue happiness and to make it part of our lives. I know that many of you are asking what is

the Secret? Well if you look into it, the secret is God, love and happiness. If you can

strive for these things each day, the secret will be released and you will enjoy everyday of

your life.

The True Spirit of Christmas

Today's post is not going to be about politics, it is going to be about life. Christmas 2008 will probably one of the most somber ones in history. I think the opposite, I believe that this is a humble season. I know it is hard for a lot of people. I am one of the many Americans that is unemployed. This Christmas has helped me to realize that the true meaning of the season is about Christ, family and love. So remember the ones whom love you and the ones you love this Christmas. I know it times are hard, but once you reflect on the good that God has done, your Christmas and days after will be bright.

Merry Christmas!

Will Governor Sanford cause The Republicans to loose their grip on South Carolina?

South Carolina's Governor Mark Sanford is once again showing he is out of touch with the people of his state. In today's Charlotte Observer it states that "Sanford is against a proposal by fellow governors to provide billions for infrastructure projects. He states that more debt is not the answer, and the nation is already sinking in it."

The article went on to say that "Sanford does not believe the statistics on unemployment in SC are accurate (8%unemployment for the state) and wants another financial audit of the unemployment agency-the standoff threatens to halt weekly payments of up to $326 for about 77,000 people. " He also has yet to ask Washington for $147 million needed to carry the state through the end of March Other states like Michigan and Indiana have already done so.

This is absurd! Here you have a state that is one of the poorest in the nation with 8% unemployment and you refuse help from Washington. I call on SC Republicans to wake up! This is not the time for ideology, this is the time for helping the people of SC. SC cannot afford to elect another governor like Sanford in 2010. When the Republican Governors Association elected him [Sanford] as their leader, they were expressing to us that the views of Sanford are their views as well. I strongly believe that if Sanford continues his defiance, South Carolina's days of being a totalitarian state will be over. I call on all citizens of SC and civic organizations like the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and others to fight now and give SC back to the people.
