I commend the Republican Party for making a change and selecting their first African American Chairman. I have always believed that there should be blacks in both parties. However, I believe that the election of Michael Steele is not going to change the Republican Party. The main problem is that they [the party] is too regionalized. Most if not all their constituents are strong in the South. Secondly, the grassroots of the party did not select Michael Steele, it was 168 GOP leaders. Mr. Steele also has made it clear that he believes strongly in the same principles that the GOP has carried out for the last eight years.
Electing an African American is a start but if the Republican Party wants to be the party of reform, they must support the middle class. This is something that they have continuously failed to do. What do you think? Leave a comment on blog.
