In the wake of the Gov of Ill being arrested for trying to sell Obama's Senate seat and Congressmen William Jefferson's corruption charges, one has to ask if the DNC is heading down the same road as the RNC. I say they are not but the Democrats have to make sure that they don't make the same mistake as the GOP. They (democrats) must not turn a blind eye to evil and corruption. They must denounce it at all cost.

No. Illinois and Chicago is a strange situation. The Congressman I worked with used to say that when he died he wanted to be buried in Chicago so that he could continue to be active in the Democratic Party. From the days of Al Capone and Elliot Ness, Chicago has had a culture that is unique. And how many states have had four recent governors imprisoned? It seems to me that it is even more impressive that President-Elect Obama was able to pass significant ethics legislation when he was in the Ill General Assembly.
The key is surity of penalty. Party loyalty ends when unethical and/or illegal activity begins. Such sctivity needs to be condemned quickly and loudly.
Can't resis throwing in my favorite theological dictim. John Calvin taught about the "total depravity of humanity". By that he meant that there is nothing good anyone can do save by the grace of God and left to our own designs, we can do rotten things. Therefore, we need checks and balances.
This Ill situation is a reminder of the total depravity of humanity and should be a warning to all of us.

Chicago has a very powerful political history. I think the Illinois Democratic Party needs to find a way to train candidates against the old style chicago politics.
